Cosmetics are the substance specially prepared to enhance beauty and increase the attractiveness of a person. Cosmeceuticlas can be defined as ‘a category of cosmetic products that produce or claim to produce therapeutic benefits’. Every plant existing on this planet has economical qualities edible, commercial or medicinal. They are being tested since time immoral and prove to have side benefits generally produce by synthetic and chemical based harmful products. These are free from side effects. Synthetic cosmetics when applied on skin or hairs, these chelatinize the protein present in the skin or hair which becomes harder and brittle. Sometimes scales or skin rashes may occur. Now a day herbal cosmetics are preferred all over the world. The major part of herbs is being consumed in the cosmeceutical industry and is realized by going through their estimated demand in the US market. At present United States annual market for cosmeceuticals has been estimated to be 2.5 US billion dollars, where as 5.0 US million dollars for European countries. Shampoo is a hair care product used for the removal of oils, dirt, skin particles, dandruff, environmental pollutants that gradually build up in hair. Number of synthetic and semi synthetic agents are available which are used in shampoo for the cleaning purpose, out of these maximum are from surfactant category. So the safe way is required to manage the unmanaged hair and to clean the hair for beautifying and shining purpose as well as for the conditioning....
Dandruff (also called scurf and historically termed Pityriasis capitis ) is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Dandruff is sometimes caused by frequent exposure to extreme heat and cold. As it is normal for skin cells to die and flake off, a small amount of flaking is normal and common. Some people, however, either chronically or as a result of certain triggers, experience an unusually large amount of flaking, which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation. Most cases of dandruff can be easily treated with specialized shampoos. Some rare cases may be caused by overusing products such as gel or hairspray. These reviews elaborate the current treatment concept for Dandruff....
The use of cosmeceuticals has drastically risen in recent years. Cosmeceuticals represent a marriage between cosmetic and pharmaceuticals. This significantly increases the armamentarium of the clinician in improving the treatment of skin, hair, and other conditions. They are at the juncture where wellness meets beauty and growing use by consumers is indicative of their popularity. This article focuses on skin, hair, and other cosmeceuticals and their regulatory aspects. The cosmeceuticals industry has undergone phenomenal growth over the past decade, and much of this expansion can be attributed to an aging population wanting to sustain a youthful appearance. The availability on drug store shelves of biologically active compounds that exhibit both cosmetic and drug-like effects has created a new group of agents, whose degree of efficacy, in many cases, has been unsubstantiated by science, and they remain unregulated. A few clinical trials warranting their use for pharmaceutical intervention in wound care, additional studies are needed with controlled extract formulations that are reproducible. The rise of Cosmeceuticals blurring the line between dermatology and cosmetology. This article mainly focus on the new and emerging skin and hair cosmetics along with their regulatory aspects....
In present investigation ten plant extracts were screened for in vitro antidandruff activity. Study compared the inhibitory characteristics of ten plant extracts against Malassezia furfur. The organisms used in this study were isolated from dandruff scales, collected from person afflicted of dandruff. Total seven isolates and standard culture of Malassezia furfur were used to check antidandruff activity. Those extracts, which showed a significant reduction in growth, were further tested to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The potentials of four extracts viz. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn (MIC - 2.24 mg/ml), Phyllanthus emblica (MIC - 18.0 mg/ml), Allium sativum (MIC - 4.48 mg/ml), and Terminalia chebula (MIC - 9.0 mg/ml) were established as active antidandruff plants and plant extracts were compared with routinely used antifungal agents....
The Plant Lawsonia inermis (Lythraceae) commonly called as Henna or Mailanchi is known for its cosmetic properties. This hair care plant is reported to possess immunomodulatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal , nootropic, antifertility , hepatoprotective, tuberculostatic activity, antimitotic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic and antioxidant properties. Henna is an important source of phytochemicals of immense medicinal and pharmaceutical significance such as naphthoquinone derivatives, aliphatic components, triterpenes, sterols, phenolic derivatives, coumarins, xanthones, flavonoids, gallic acid, hennotannic acid and mannitol which are effective as immunomodulators and other allied agents. Hence, in view of the immense medicinal significance of the plant, this review is therefore an effort to compile all the information reported on its phytochemical and pharmacological activities, so that interest could be diverted towards this potential dye herb, for the treatment and relief from various ailments and diseases....
Nanotechnology is a relatively young discipline which deals with structures of the exact size and shape of which must be measured on a nanometric scale (measuring <100nm). By this time, nanotechnology has proved its worth in the field of medicine and in the delivery of various therapeutic agents and now it is trying to extend its dimensions in to the cosmetic industry by taking the name of nanocosmetics. This widespread use of nano scale materials in cosmetics is due to the fact that these obtain newer properties which differ from the large scale particles. These altered properties include color, transparency, solubility and chemical reactivity, making the nanomaterials attractive to the cosmetics and personal care industries. The application of the nanotechnology has even conquered the herbal cosmetic market leading to the emergence of nano herbal cosmetics. Even though there are such wide spread applications of nanomaterials, especially with respect to cutaneous delivery, recent concerns of safety raised by the media and by various organisations like the Royal Society and the Friends of Earth have forced the cosmetic industries to limit the use of nanotechnology in cosmetics and for enforcing laws to undergo a full-fledged safety assessment before they enter in to the market. In this article, the immense potentials of the nanocosmetics followed by their implications on the health of the consumers and the environment are being reviewed by citing the laws and regulations put forward by the European Union to control the use of nanomaterials in the cosmetic field....
Perfumes are fluid preparations used for scenting, which are prepared by the artful blending of certain fragrant substances in appropriate proportions. From ancient times, perfumes from natural origin have attracted attraction of mankind. Depending upon the concentration of aromatic compounds the different perfume types are available. Apart from cosmetic applications, perfumes also have different therapeutic actions and widely used for treatment of various ailments. Because of several problems associated with synthetic compounds, perfumes from natural origin are becoming popular. In last two decades, lot of research has been carried out on perfumes from natural origin. This review takes account of some of the important naturally occurring perfume compounds from natural origin along with issues related to safety and analysis of perfume....
